Jazz Airlines removes life vests to save weight, fuel

I don't know about anyone else, but it's bad enough to have to need the life vests and then find out you're going to use the seat cushion. The life vests don't weigh so much that you are going to save tons of money by keeping it off the aircraft. As an airline, you want to make your customers feel at ease about their safety. This is just plain wrong and one of the many things that demonstrates to passengers that profits come before safety. The Canadian government may say its OK to not have it, but removing it is just one more thing to worry about when you're flying. At the rate we are going, they'll pull the life raft off as well to save weight and fuel while telling you that your seat cushion will be enough.

Instant Messaging

In this day and age we all have have at least one instant messaging service we belong to. However, not everyone belongs to the same one. A long time ago AOL and ICQ were the big ones. Now we have MSN, Yahoo and a host of others meaning you have to sign into each of them and making it a mess in terms of applications running on your computer. I have been a long time fan of Meebo which runs online with no software to install and combines AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, ICQ, and Jabber in one place. Just today, while browsing around I found Pidgin which combines 16 chat services into one. I have just installed it and will review it as soon as I start to put it to use and see if it's worth it.

Cramming

I'm not talking about cramming for a test or cramming things into a space. I'm talking about bogus charges from third party companies that could be added to your phone bill without your knowledge. If you think you're immune to this think again. My research has shown that all major cell phone companies fall prey to this. In addition, your home phone may be vulnerable as well. I'll give you my personal experience with this in hopes that you will be aware of this and act to prevent it before it begins.
My wife got a text message a month ago which she treated as spam. It came from a source unknown to her and she ignored it. A few weeks ago she got the same text again. She found it strange that she had gotten another text like the one before. It thanked her for renewing her subscription to a certain ring tone service by the name of ringaza.com. The problem was that my wife never subscribed to this so we had no idea why or how they got her cell number. I checked my bill and sure enough I had been billed last month and this month. I called Sprint, my provider, and told them about it. They were very good, gave me a credit for the $9.95 I had been billed for this month, and I was told that I would be blocked from all 3rd party charges on all the phones on this account. What this does in essence is that you are unable to voluntarily or involuntarily buy ring tones, wallpapers, etc or be billed by 3rd party services like jabber.com or ringaza.com. This might be something to look at as a preventative measure from having this scam befall you.
I have been reading several message board online and it is pretty popular. Imagine the money rolling in every month at $9.95 per person scammed.
If you want more information on cramming and what to do, go to http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/products/pro18.shtm
Remember to always look over your phone bill. Hidden charges add up in time and the longer you wait the more money you lose.

Britney Spears Vocals Isolated (You've been warned)

Someone on the inside at one of Britney's concerts isolated her microphone and I can tell you that the audio is priceless, painful, and excruciating all at the same time.

Colmes throws a curveball at Hannity on Faux News!

Alan Colmes compared McCain's extramarital affair with John Edwards thus causing Sean Hannity to contradict himself. According to Hannity, if you're a POW, you are fit for office even if you have had an affair. All others need not apply. No word yet on how Guiliani qualifies as fit for office.

BBC News 24 Interviews Wrong Guy - Guy Says We Must Download

I thought this was very funny so even though it's over 2 years old it merits a mention. May 2006 - BBC News 24 thought they were interviewing Guy Kewney from NewsWireless for a story on a Apple Corps v. Apple Computer court case when in fact they were interviewing Guy Goma, a business studies graduate from the Congo who was sitting in the BBC reception area waiting to be interviewed for a job! In the picture above, Guy Kewney is on the left and Guy Goma on the right.

it's on the way

Speech class went well; I would say better than expected but we are 5 weeks in to the course and only 3 weeks to go. On another note, I have been following the small moving tropical storm headed towards Houston. It appears it is going to make a direct hit and I hope my distance from the coast will be a factor in minimizing wind damage. On a positive note, the storm will bring much needed rain which has been scant as of late. Perhaps, I'll look at the news more intently tomorrow. Besides the storm I did learn that Morgan Freeman had been in an automobile accident. I hope he makes a full recovery.

My first Blog

This blog is a project that I have been thinking about for some time now. Even the title has been floating in my mind for a few months now. For a long time I've wondered if I would be any good at keeping up with a blog or maintaining my interest in it for a long period of time. I've been researching it and looking at some other blogs to see what others write about. I've even looked into the possibility of making money with a blog. It's not an easy task and I have been told that if I want to start a blog, it should be because I want to do it. Regardless, most blogs will not bring you enough money to live on.
Anyway, I enjoy writing and giving my opinion on things that I see on television, hear on the radio, or see on the net. I'm going to give this a shot and see what direction it takes. You're welcome to come along for the ride!

So much for 'fair and balanced'

Ex-White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan talks to Chis Matthews on MSNBC's Hardball regarding how the White House has sent and still sends literal talking points to Fox News. Many people have known about this for a long time but its refreshing to finally see someone put it out there so everyone can see it.
